I was so glad to be reunited with one of my favorite bad boys, Javier! After losing Ellie, he has spiraled even further down into his dark, seedy and sadistic narco world. While we all knew he had a darker side to him, previous books in the Sins & Needles series only hinted at his depravity, whereas Dirty Angels gives an up close and personal look at the monster that Javier has become. He seems to have lost touch with any shred of humanity that remained within him.
It is apparent that he is attracted to his hostage, a former beauty queen and wife of a rival cartel boss. However, I wasn’t certain if he was too far gone to truly love again…or if he’d ever really loved in the first place. (To be fair, I should probably disclose up front that I had wanted Ellie to end up with Javier and am still a little bitter over that disappointment.)
I really got into the story and even made peace with Javier moving on from Ellie. I love a story that makes me feel conflicted throughout, and Ms. Halle definitely hit the mark with Dirty Angels. My thoughts were pretty evenly divided as to whether Javier was irredeemable and should be killed, or whether he was just irresistible and made for dirty, dirty deeds. I probably need a good psychiatrist, but I chose the latter!
I definitely recommend this book. Javier is hot, hot, hot!
