Dark and Gritty

Deliver (Deliver, #1)Deliver by Pam Godwin
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

I have to admit that it was hard for me to get into the story at first because the captive was male vs. female. I had read the summary first, so I knew that it would be a kidnapped college guy, so I was somewhat surprised myself by my response. I guess it was hard for me to break out of my favorite alpha-male stereotype that I prefer. This was a little difficult for me to acknowledge, since I like to think of myself as a bit of a feminist.

Once I got over the fact that the “victim” was a strong, virile male, I really enjoyed the story. As the nature of the relationship between Liv and Josh shifts to consensual, leaving behind the master-slave dynamic, Liv’s true motivations are revealed.

As the story unfolded, I found myself liking Liv and Josh, as well as Van. Even though he was a sadistic ass most of the time, there was a part of me that wanted Liv to end up with him. Unrequited love and all, I guess.

The twists in the plot kept me engaged and wondering how it would end right to the last page. Overall, a good story that puts an interesting spin on the kidnapped/captive/slave storyline.
